– The University of California, Berkeley Library seeks an experienced, collaborative, and service-oriented librarian to join the Library Social Sciences Division. The division supports teaching and research in the social sciences and provides innovative collection development and user-focused services including data and information literacy, course-based instruction, and research support. Position Description

The University of California, Berkeley is seeking an experienced Business and Social Sciences Librarian to join the Library Social Sciences Division. The division supports teaching and research in the social sciences and provides innovative collection development and user-focused services including data and information literacy, course-based instruction, and research support.

The Environment : The UC Berkeley Library is a renowned research and teaching facility at a premier public university. The Library comprises 20 campus libraries and a collection of more than 12 million volumes with a substantial collections budget. The Social Sciences Division oversees three subject libraries: the Business Library, the Environmental Design Library, and the Social Research Library, and serves twelve social science departments plus multiple professional schools and programs.

Responsibilities Establish strong relationships with faculty and students; conduct analysis and assessment of user needs; create collections of digital, print, and data resources. Provide virtual and in-person research consultations; offer customized instruction; develop instructional materials in a variety of formats. Promote library resources and services to support Berkeley's teaching and research through outreach, exhibits, and programming. Serve as a liaison to the Haas School of Business, providing collections and research support for a diverse group of undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, and practitioners; collaborate with colleagues to support researchers campus-wide as a Library subject expert in company, industry, and financial market data. Build, manage, and make accessible collections that meet the research needs of the campus community; align with digitization priorities and shared print efforts; analyze needs to inform decisions and negotiate with vendors. Promote the legal and ethical use of online business collections; collaborate with Library colleagues and Haas to shape services, projects, policies, and collections. Participate in library planning and governance; contribute to professional growth and advancement within the Library and beyond.

Environment and Collaboration : The Long Business Library at Haas is an all-digital library with spaces for study and computing. This librarian works closely with colleagues in the Social Sciences Division, Office of Scholarly Communication and Information Policy, Library Data Services, and Haas to advance services and collections. All UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) : Advanced degree. Preferred Qualifications : Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program or equivalent. Knowledge of company, industry, and financial data concepts and resources (data platforms, business news, scholarly journal aggregators, ebooks). Experience with collection development, including managing funds, vendor relations, and identifying new business/financial resources. Experience assisting students and faculty with the discovery and use of business, management, and financial resources. Experience providing library instruction in an academic environment. Familiarity with financial data resources and supporting researchers with data discovery and access. Experience providing highly responsive public service in a library. Experience building collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff in an academic or library environment. Demonstrated analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
