Position Requirements

This position is traditionally held after the school day at the Elementary School. You MUST be available to work until the end of June (note to all applicants). Site Coordinators must meet one of the following OCFS-acceptable categories for the Office of Children and Family Services and have additional preferred experience with youth in preschool or UPK settings: Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field (at least 9 credits in Early Child Development) and two years direct experience with children under 13, plus at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field. Preschool Age Child Care Credential or other Office-recognized credential for preschool-age development, plus two years direct experience with children under 13 and at least one year supervisory experience. New York State Children's Program Administrator credential plus two years direct experience with children under 13 and at least one year supervisory experience. Associate degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field (at least 9 credits in Early Child Development) and two years direct experience with children under 13 and at least one year supervisory experience.

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Youth Development Director, Site Coordinators provide direction to children, plan program curriculum, oversee program staff, complete OCFS drills and inspections, and ensure safety and well-being of children. The role focuses on delivering a quality experience to children and families aligned with YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. This is a part-time position averaging less than 30 hours per week. Essential Functions

Implements curriculum within established guidelines. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans. supervises the children, classroom, and activities. Conducts ongoing observations and evaluations of each child. Maintains positive relationships with families; engages families as volunteers. Maintains program site and equipment; maintains required program records. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings. Promotes the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and emotional well-being of the children. Plans and implements activities with staff; provides direct leadership to assigned groups. Assists children in completing tasks and assesses development as appropriate. Ensures safety and cleanliness of program areas; follows safety procedures and regulations. Maintains positive relationships with children, families, partners, and YMCA staff. Participates in recruitment and special events; may work at other YMCA program locations as scheduled.

Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law; School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required. Minimum age: 18 years old to work in Prime Time and Child Watch. High School diploma or GED preferred; additional educational requirements may be necessary per the regulating agency. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and required training within 60 days of hire date. Previous experience with children in a developmental setting preferred. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate activities. Experience with diverse populations; ability to foster positive relationships across backgrounds.
