Overview
WSP is seeking a Vice President, Structural Engineering to join our Property & Buildings team in Boston, MA or New York, NY. The team provides structural design consulting services for complex building projects across sectors including science/technology, healthcare, commercial construction, public safety, K-12, and higher education. The role provides high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with project codes. The position emphasizes leadership, mentoring engineers, and growing within the structural engineering profession. Apply high-level structural engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation. Perform professional structural engineering work, researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, transportation channels, and operations to ensure conformance with rules, standards, and permits. Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety/phasing plans; coordinate with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Manage design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation of building and infrastructure projects, ensuring durability and structural soundness. Incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, materials, modeling techniques, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality, aligning with end-user and transportation needs. Oversee cross-functional teams to execute project work, including budgets, hours, expenses, task completion, material quantities, permits, documentation, and regulatory analysis. Coordinate, review, and approve design plans, ensuring compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations. Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, reports, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for interpretation and presentation of findings. Prepare technical reports and presentations to address structural, environmental, design, and construction issues and opportunities. Analyze site investigation data and develop action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation. Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients; collaborate with engineers and infrastructure authorities on federal, state, regional, local, and privately funded projects and business development opportunities. Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices; exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct per policy. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline. 12+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior structural or civil design experience. Professional Engineer license required. Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and project-related applications. Knowledge and experience with building structural planning, design, and construction management; involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects. Awareness of sustainability concepts and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas. Knowledge of structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping. Ability to perform technical computations, read plans, and compare to regulations. Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations, applying regulations and policies. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences. Demonstrated self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and lead junior team members; adherence to QA/QC. Proficiency with technical writing, software (ETABS or RAM), BIM, math, physics, modeling, spreadsheets, and related tools. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to apply technical knowledge to data and calculations. Proven ability to coordinate and direct subcontractors and others safely and efficiently. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP policies. Flexibility to work hours and travel as project needs require. Occasional travel may be required.

Masters Degree in Engineering (structural). Structural Engineering (SE) license.
