NETWORK ENGINEER Location: Herndon, VA (hybrid onsite) Contract to hire *Must be a US Citizen and ONLY hold US citizenship* Responsibilities Evaluate, design, and operate the Enterprise Network Infrastructure; act as a hands-on network engineer evaluating complex network?computing system requirements and implementing efficient solutions. Develop technical standards, evaluate new products, and interface with vendors to purchase hardware and software. Collaborate with other IT teams to provide guidance and resolve network issues. Install, configure, upgrade, patch, maintain, and monitor the Network across the Enterprise while ensuring compliance with security and encryption protocols. Ensure 100% network availability; implement fault and performance management; enforce corporate network, system, and application security procedures. Create, implement, and document processes for Network Infrastructure including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, capacity planning, landscape design, 24/7 support, IMAC services, change management, incident diagnosis, root cause analysis, and vendor management. Oversee configuration, testing, installation, modification, and servicing of network components (switches, routers, circuits, wireless, VoIP, etc.). Coordinate end-user satisfaction and act as a Network SME to support other groups (Endpoint Management, Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Systems Administration).

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science / MIS / Information Technology, or equivalent experience in Information Security, Information Technology, or related discipline. Minimum 7 years information technology experience; minimum 4 years networking/telecom experience in a fast-paced environment. Hands-on experience with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, VPN, etc.). Working knowledge of TCP/IP and related networking protocols. Experience with telephony, desktop OS, and server environments desirable. Strong organizational skills; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Advanced experience in developing, evaluating, and implementing network information security architectures, technologies, standards, and practices. Experience with firewalls, IDS, and 24x7 monitoring; enterprise and data center security policy design and deployment. Leadership experience on a technical team (lead role on a team of at least 4 people). Excellent communication skills; ability to present complex technical information effectively.

Specific Technical Skills Desirable

Unix proficiency; scripting (Perl, Python, Shell). Microsoft Windows administration; experience with AWS and Microsoft Azure. Professional certifications in relevant area (e.g., CCNP, CCDP, AWS, Azure). Networking: BGP, OSPF, Policy Based Routing, L2/L3 VPN, QoS, SSL VPNs, 802.1x. Experience with Cisco (ISR, 9300) and next-generation firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA). Linux platforms (Suse, RedHat, CentOS); tools like SolarWinds, Cisco ISE/ACS, MRTG, NetFlow, PuTTY, Wireshark. Familiarity with SEIM integration and security guides (e.g., NIST 800-53 rev 4).
