Preconstruction Estimator Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Preconstruction Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our preconstruction group, you will play a vital role in the success of our projects by providing detailed and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost structures, as well as excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. They will be proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications, and have experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Sage Estimating, Bluebeam).

As a Preconstruction Estimator, you will work closely with project managers and engineers to refine estimates and budgets, and prepare bid proposals and participate in pre-bid meetings. You will also maintain an up-to-date database of pricing, materials, and labor costs, and identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and alternative solutions.

Key qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience), excellent communication and negotiation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities:

Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine scope of work and requirements. Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment. Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes. Identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and alternative solutions. Maintain an up-to-date database of pricing, materials, and labor costs. Collaborate with project managers and engineers to refine estimates and budgets. Prepare bid proposals and participate in pre-bid meetings.

Requirements:

Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost structures. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Experience with estimating software preferred. Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail with ability to meet deadlines in fast-paced environment. Effective communication and negotiation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
