Job Summary
The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs. The RN demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of patient care and is directly responsible to a designated nurse manager, or supervisor.

Responsibilities
- Organizational/Assessment and Plan – Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment; set priorities for patients with varying acuity; maintain continuity through clear and concise communication.
- Quality of Care – Document patient care clearly and completely; develop a comprehensive plan of care based on initial assessment data and input from the health care team; develop educational and discharge plans; evaluate effectiveness and revise plans as needed; participate in unit-based and organizational quality management or quality improvement programs; provide a safe environment; administer medications safely; perform nursing procedures safely; use equipment safely; recognize infection risks and apply universal precautions.
- Coordination/Collaboration – Interact with patients, families and colleagues professionally; collaborate with other disciplines; develop, utilize and evaluate unit-specific standards of care; uphold the ANA code of ethics; participate in unit goals and committees; disseminate information to peers.
- Education – Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth; share knowledge with colleagues; participate in educational programs; seek guidance for additional learning needs.
- Research – Utilize nursing research findings in clinical practice; contribute to nursing or medical research endeavors by supporting investigators.
- Budget – Use time and materials efficiently; suggest cost-effective health care delivery; assess patient acuity for staffing decisions; manage within established budgetary boundaries.
- Personnel – Participate in orientation of new staff and students; contribute to clinical evaluation of staff; assume responsibility for the unit in the absence of leadership; adhere to hospital and nursing policies; advocate policy changes through appropriate channels; support cooperative teamwork and flexibility in assignments and schedules.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

Licenses and Credentials
Registered Nurse (RN - State License) - Generic - HR Only required
Experience
2+ years current ED Level I trauma preferred. ACLS/BLS required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Evidence of analytic thinking; strong observational and priority-setting skills; ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to apply hospital standards in service areas, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
