Human Resources Generalist
The Human Resources Generalist performs a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of core HR operations and service delivery. This role focuses on front-line support for departments, tracking and processing of employee lifecycle transactions, and assisting in the execution of talent acquisition strategies. Key responsibilities include supporting onboarding, hiring, separations, promotions, demotions, and classification updates, as well as maintaining accurate records in the HRIS. The HR Generalist serves as a proactive partner to hiring managers/departments, ensuring consistency, compliance, and a positive experience across key HR touchpoints.
Working Conditions Indoor/office situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Sitting for long periods of time, working on computer.
Supports and tracks all stages of the employee lifecycle, including new hires, promotions, demotions, transfers, separations, and other personnel actions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Assists departments with recruitment activities including drafting job postings, monitoring applicant flow, and coordinating hiring processes with Talent Acquisition and departmental hiring managers.
Prepares and processes new hire documentation; ensures completeness and compliance prior to onboarding; assists with orientation logistics and follow-up.
Reviews position requests and associated documentation for accuracy and alignment with established classification and compensation guidelines in partnership with County Compensation team.
Maintains personnel data and records within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and applicant tracking system; ensures timely updates and data integrity.
Tracks onboarding and offboarding tasks and collaborates with other HR functional teams to ensure a seamless employee experience.
Provides timely and professional responses to inquiries from employees, applicants, and supervisors regarding general HR policies, procedures, and transactional matters.
Reviews HR forms, reports, and communications for completeness and consistency; assists with data compilation and reporting needs.
Supports HR initiatives by tracking status updates, generating routine reports, and flagging areas that require attention or follow-up.
Assists with maintaining HR process documentation, templates, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Collaborates with the HR team to ensure alignment, consistency, and continuous improvement of HR practices.
Types, files, retrieves, and maintains confidential documents including employment requisitions, applicant files and personnel records, adding supportive and supplemental documentation. When received, inputs and retrieves requisitions, applicant, job, and employee information from a computerized system.
Processes new employee hire packages to ensure accuracy for payroll; schedules and arranges orientations sessions to disseminate and familiarize new personnel with required County information, policies, rules, and regulations.
Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Ability to accurately enter/or retrieve information from various computer systems and/or programs in a timely manner.
Provides information and interpretations to all levels of management, employees, and applicants regarding human resources policies, procedures, practices, and decisions.
Ability to be a self-starter, while working well in a strong team environment.
Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required.
Associates degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
Minimum of two (2) years' work experience related to human resources, preferably working in a human resources department.
Valid driver's license required, with valid Florida's driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
