Licensed Practical Nurse — Bus Transportation Care

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care for student during transportation to and from school via bus/van transportation
  • Provide routine and emergency nursing care and treatment per established procedures, standing orders as prescribed by healthcare provider
  • Provide routine and emergency patient care and treatment as authorized by healthcare provider
  • Administer prescribed medications
  • Adhere to infection control and universal precautions standards
  • Educate and update patients and parents/caregiver on student\'s condition and care/treatments
  • Provide student assessment for chronic health condition, safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug) and other health related issues for the purposes of identifying problems, providing care as prescribed, recommending referral for additional care/treatment, and complying with legal requirements as a mandated reporter
  • Promotes a healthy school community
  • Responds quickly to medical emergencies
  • Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Communicates new COVID-19 health policies and procedures to school administration

Qualifications

  • Previous nursing experience working with students with special healthcare needs (g-tubes, tracheostomies, colostomies, seizures)
  • Experience with medical equipment and procedures
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Compassionate and caring
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use computer technology and applications

Licenses and Certifications

  • LPN DC License
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Background Check Clearance

Work Experience

  • LPN: 2 years (Required)
  • Pediatrics, ICU, ER: 2 years (Preferred)

Physical Demands

  • Able to move about inside and outside the school bus and terminal to provide care to students and administer medications, treatments, etc.
  • Able to ascend/descend stairs to respond to provide student care and respond to individuals requiring emergency care (e.g., CPR or emergency care/assessment).
  • Able to stoop, kneel when responding to an individual requiring emergency care (e.g., CPR, seizure care, etc.).
  • Able to observe small text (e.g., read insulin syringe and observe medication for administration)
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with students, staff, and families regarding student related information
