Overview

The Media Relations Manager will be based in either the

New York

or

Washington, DC

office and is responsible for raising the visibility of the firm's core industry groups and leading practices. This role builds awareness of key partners, capabilities, and unique offerings, particularly at the intersection of regulatory, litigation, and transactional expertise. The Manager works closely with firm partners, senior staff, and internal teams to implement strategic communications initiatives.

Responsibilities

Develop, plan, and execute media relations and communications strategies, leveraging AI-driven tools and analytics to optimize outreach efforts. Secure media placements in appropriate outlets to increase visibility of the firm, its industry groups, practice areas, and partners. Cultivate and maintain relationships with press contacts in legal, business, policy, and technology sectors, including international, national, and regional media. Collaborate with partners to identify and execute proactive media opportunities, earning trust and respect through strategic counsel. Prepare partners for media interviews, participate in meetings with key reporters, and provide feedback following interviews. Write and edit communications materials including press releases, media pitches, and pre-briefing documents. Develop and deliver competitive analysis reports to support high-visibility communications efforts. Collaborate with Business Development and Brand/Editorial Content teams to identify cross-collaboration opportunities, industry trends, and newsworthy client work. Support internal and crisis communications strategies as needed. Provide media relations counsel to attorneys and professional staff, including advice on content development and outreach strategy. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of eight (8) years of media relations, public relations, or strategic communications experience, preferably in a law firm, media outlet, or professional services organization. Existing media relationships and proven ability to develop new contacts. Strong news judgment and understanding of what drives impactful media coverage; experience measuring ROI, including use of AI-powered analytics tools. Experience developing and executing successful communications plans. Background in journalism or experience in complex/technical areas preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet research, and PR/media tools such as Meltwater. Knowledge of and experience in relevant industry sectors, including Life Sciences; Financial Services; Consumer Products and Retail; Technology, Telecommunications, and Media; and Aerospace, Defense, and National Security. Ability to write and pitch story ideas, client wins, thought leadership, op-eds, and brand profiles to targeted media outlets. Digital and social media savvy. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple demands under tight deadlines. Experience providing counsel to senior-level staff and attorneys. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
