Position Description

Sr. Database Administrator

This position formulates, maintains and documents sound data administration procedures and standards, including data integrity and security. Maintains the database and data models in accordance with procedures developed by Farm Credit Bank of Texas. Oversees all database administration functions for the bank. Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities Monitors and maintains database security on both files and programs. Administers change control software, including overseeing installation of new releases, moving new and changed objects to production as well as monitoring and auditing change history on the system. Configure and manage security, login accounts, and user access in all production environments. Monitors security on all production SQL servers to ensure application data integrity. Recommends solutions to management for any out of the ordinary situations found. Consults with analysts and architects on the development of databases during the detailed analysis phase of Software development and system integration. Acts as project leader when assigned the responsibility. Performs database capacity planning and monitors all databases for optimum performance. Recommends to management when hardware and software upgrades are advisable including detailed specifications to increase processes and storage sizes. Configure, install and upgrade all production application SQL servers. Sizes servers for new applications and recommends these specifications in order to purchase the appropriate hardware. Create, modify, maintain, monitor and optimize production and test databases. Monitor and maintain Microsoft Terminal Servers and resident applications. Develops and monitors compliance with department standards and procedures necessary to ensure data consistency and availability. Performs data file maintenance as required by users. Maintains compliance with development standards and procedures.

What You Bring to the Team

Our ideal candidate lives within a commutable distance from our office in Austin, Texas and appreciates the value of the hybrid work schedule, while recognizing that the position requires regular onsite collaboration. This position requires: Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics or business preferred, or equivalent experience. Microsoft certification not required but a plus. Experience with change management software related to the AS/400 environment and Windows environment, working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server environment and security functions. Minimum of seven (7) years of software development experience in an analytical role. Minimum of four (4) years' experience in database administration. Thorough understanding of data processing procedures and concepts, thorough knowledge of structured programming methods and procedures, and experience with system procedures and design. Strong working knowledge of IBM OS/400, Microsoft SQL Server, relational database theory and system security. Familiarity with or working knowledge of DB2 in a Windows environment.
