Overview

This position performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging including a variety of procedures (invasive and non-invasive) ranging from biopsies, routine OB/GYN, limited vascular, abdomen, small parts to intra-cavity and color Doppler. The Ultrasound Technologist must have strong critical thinking, interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities while assuming responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients under their care. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to instruct patients who may be under physical or emotional stress; ability to comprehend and follow physicians' orders and imaging protocols. The technologist will work productively within inpatient, emergency department and outpatient settings by multitasking with changing priorities. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for obtaining information such as patient identity, history, reviewing medical records for appropriateness of the exam, and documentation accuracy. The role requires high ethical standards, self-motivation for lifelong learning, and delivering excellent customer service. Responsibilities

Produces quality images by selecting appropriate technical factors, equipment and transducer settings. Verifies patient orders and reviews appropriateness for the exam, obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster comfort and confidence. Determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while using independent judgment to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. (20%)*

Operates sonographic equipment independently, performs and communicates findings of diagnostic examinations, and manages daily department operations including patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies. (20%)*

Responsible for appropriate sterilization techniques and documentation accuracy of logs, charts, forms, and records in paper and electronic formats. Complies with The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and protocols. Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Provides ultrasound guidance for biopsies/aspirations. Prepares equipment and supplies; observes sterile techniques and assists the physician as needed. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while in the ultrasound technologist's care. Delivers quality patient care, including universal precautions, patient confidentiality and ethical medical practice. Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, and patients in oral, written, and telephone formats. Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies; provides excellent customer service. Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy toward all employees, physicians, staff, and patients. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and hospital goals; participates in departmental and medical center meetings. Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas of the department as needed. Provides department-specific on-call duties during days, evenings and weekends as assigned within coverage areas. Flexible to work long shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays; may alternate shifts. Performs other related duties as required by authorized personnel. ARDMS AB - Abdominal Ultrasound Tech Required. Active ARDMS Abdomen or OB/GYN certification within one year of hire. ARDMS OBGY - OB/GYN Ultrasound Tech Preferred. BLS - Basic Life Support Required. Within 3 months of hire or transfer. ULTRA C I - ARDMS-RVT or CCI-RVS Preferred. Registry eligible in Vascular Ultrasound (RVT). Required Education

Education: Associates Degree or Technical Certificate Experience, Training and Skills

Registry-eligible new graduates may apply. Interpersonal skills to communicate with individuals and groups; ability to interact with people at all levels. OSHA training must be completed annually. Current compliance with CME requirements and ARDMS/CCI re-credentialing to maintain active registrant status. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to stressful situations and trauma. Able to wear PPE as required. Ability to move about the facility and perform the functions of the job. Adequate vision and hearing with or without aids. Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods; postural changes as needed. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens; follow bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance and stay awake. Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and sensing. Physical Demand Level: Light; occasional lifting 11-20 lbs; frequent lifting 10 lbs and walking/standing/pushing/pulling as required. Other Information

Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements and ARDMS/CCI re-credentialing yearly as appropriate. Priority is given to candidates registry eligible or with active registries. OSHA training updated annually.
