Position Overview: Audio and Visual (A/V) Systems Technician/Engineer to provide on-site support across a variety of athletics-managed facilities. This role is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of advanced audio/visual systems. The selected candidate will work closely with Athletics staff, coaches, administrators, and end-users to ensure A/V systems deliver high-quality performance for day-to-day operations, premium spaces, and high-profile events. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in A/V technologies, providing both technical expertise and outstanding customer service. Key Responsibilities System Support & Maintenance Serve as the on-site A/V expert for Athletics-managed facilities. Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair A/V systems to ensure optimal performance. Maintain and regularly update master inventory lists, system documentation, service records, and warranties. Perform routine maintenance, calibrations, and component testing to ensure ongoing functionality. Support A/V setup and provide live troubleshooting for events, including games, press conferences, and premium client events. Projects & Implementation Assist with installation and configuration of A/V systems including control systems, cabling, networking, mounting devices, and labelling. Evaluate system issues and recommend solutions for upgrades, replacements, or optimizations. Participate in A/V design, integration, and life cycle planning for new or remodeled Athletics facilities. Collaborate with manufacturers, vendors, and contractors on technical specifications, warranties, and installations. User Support & Training Provide direct A/V support to coaches, staff, administrators, and clients. Train users on proper use of A/V systems and create easy-to-follow infographics, instructions, and troubleshooting guides. Deliver excellent customer service and maintain strong working relationships with Athletics personnel. Liaise with Athletics IT, Digital Media, Event Operations, and Premium Services units for issue resolution. Documentation & Reporting Maintain detailed incident logs of service calls, issues, actions taken, and resolutions. Provide complete documentation for all efforts as part of staff augmentation engagement. Ensure compliance with Iowa State Universitys established A/V standards, protocols, and security requirements. Systems Supported Primary Systems: Displays, advanced audio, control systems, AV networking, and IP distribution systems across premium suites, clubs, meeting rooms, classrooms, offices, training/weight rooms, locker rooms, and atriums. Key Facility: Stark Performance Center (centralized A/V control, IP distribution, advanced audio). Secondary Systems: Videoboards and broadcast operations at Hilton Coliseum, Jack Trice Stadium, and Cyclone Sports Complex. Qualifications Required Bachelors degree in Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and hands-on A/V experience. 3+ years of professional experience with audio/visual systems installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Expertise in advanced A/V systems, networking, displays, control systems, and IP-based distribution. Demonstrated experience with system upgrades, calibration, and troubleshooting under time-sensitive conditions. Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users. Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends as required for athletic events. Preferred CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or equivalent industry certification. Experience in higher education, athletics, or large event venue environments. Familiarity with videoboard/broadcast systems and event production workflows. Ability to create clear training materials and user documentation. Experience working collaboratively with IT teams, contractors, and vendors.
