The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Essential Functions

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies. Identify patients using two identifiers and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation and document on appropriate worksheets. Interview patients for a complete medical history. Review in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history. Record medical history on requisitions. Correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed. Assume responsibility for the exam from beginning of the exam until completion of dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Record contrast type and amount when requested. Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional reconstructed images and measurements as instructed. Perform basic patient care functions. Inform appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patients condition. Initiate life support measures when necessary. Assist in code blue procedures during medical emergencies. Perform MRI scanning and assist Physicians/PA during invasive procedures. Maintain sterile technique in preparation of supplies. Perform invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies. Obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members. Follow radiation safety standards. Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. Maintain knowledge and skills to work safely in an environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures. Attend in-service classes and complete required safety modules. Operate radiology computer system to enter orders and charge procedures/supplies. Document contrast administration in the MAR. Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Keep area stocked. Clean work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace. Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan. Maintain knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for staff and patients around magnetic fields. Minimum Job Requirements

Education, Certification / License, Work Experience Graduate of an institution accredited by ARRT-recognized agencies in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required. MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire. CPR certification required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Must follow radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation. Preferred Job Requirements
