SSH Imaging MRI Status:

Full time Responsibilities Under the supervision of the MRI Manager, the MRI Team Leader and MRI Safety Officer, perform a variety of routine and advanced MRI procedures in the presence of a strong magnetic field while monitoring and maintaining essential patient care and safety. Prepare the patient, position, set imaging parameters, perform computer processing, and display images. Perform scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanners and related equipment; record QA results and report potential equipment problems to MRI Management Team as necessary. Insert IV catheters as needed. Prepare for and perform intravenous injection of MR contrast agents using the MR compatible power injector; understand contraindications and monitor for adverse reactions; document contrast injections appropriately. Instruct patients and visitors in MR safety procedures. Ensure adherence to safety practices by all persons entering the MRI area. Review outpatient and inpatient schedules to confirm exams are protocoled and reviewed for potential contraindications. Act as final check point for patient safety and protocol clarification. Prepare inpatients for MRI examinations through inpatient MRI screening, multidisciplinary care-coordination, and integration of ancillary MRI safe equipment to ensure efficient imaging. Communicate with radiologist for protocol clarification when necessary. Use designated department protocols; report issues to the MRI management team and MRI schedulers as needed. Assist in instruction of visitors and rotating medical staff; explain patient procedures, processing, equipment operation, and safety practices. Obtain and document necessary patient information from patient/family/healthcare providers relevant to care (safety, medical history for exam relevance). Complete assessments using medical records, radiology requisitions, and physician orders to ensure appropriateness of procedures. Assess patient condition/status to ensure ability to proceed with MRI exam. Document all pertinent information involving oral/IV contrast in Epic and obtain accurate allergy information. Perform all MRI exams with high accuracy and follow department clinical protocols, including post-processing. Rigorously evaluate images for diagnostic purposes; recognize anatomy and pathology to determine need for additional scans or contrast. Begin and complete all MRI exams using the RIS tracking system with accuracy. Utilize PACS modality work list with accuracy for patient demographics and accession numbers. Scan required documents into PACS and Epic Media Manager for paperless workflow; QC MRI studies using Epic, PACS, and DynaCad. Follow safety protocols related to magnet safety with accuracy. Contact GE Cares and report the need for service or place GE I-Linq service tickets using the MRI unit as needed. Contribute to team approach to provide high-quality patient care/customer satisfaction by working non-assigned shifts as needed and at other sites. Maintain American Heart Association BLS certification. Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues. Incorporate South Shore Health and Mission Statement into daily activities. Comply with South Shore Hospital policies and department expectations; maintain courteous interactions with colleagues and patients. Demonstrate understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessments; participate in quality improvement activities and mandatory education. Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Imaging, MRI Manager, and MRI Team Leader; assist with patient transport when safety concerns arise.

Safety Awareness

Verify correct patient, procedure, site, and information before invasive procedures. Verify patient identity according to policy prior to care/procedures/medications. Follow approved procedures for verbal read-back of MD orders when received by telephone. Comply with CDC hand hygiene guidelines as observed by managers and peers. Mark surgical sites according to policy. Use personal protective equipment appropriately. Adhere to respiratory etiquette guidelines and universal precautions. Properly dispose of hazardous materials and follow electrical safety guidelines. Participate in ongoing learning and adopt modern technology and procedures relevant to the role. Embrace technological advances to improve communication of information based on role.

Technology and Learning Must be proficient in Cross Sectional Anatomy, use of MRI scanners/power injectors/venipuncture or be trainable to competency. Must be proficient in Magnet Safety. Good working knowledge of Epic (Radiant) and PACS or be trainable to competency.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Required Must be a graduate of an approved school of Medical Imaging and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Minimum Work Experience 1-2 years experience as a Radiologic technologist preferred with at least one year in a specialty such as CT scan. MRI experience is preferred. Required Licenses / Registrations Must be registered or eligible for certification in MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent (ARMRIT). If not, you must meet and successfully complete either ARRT (MRI) or equivalent certification (ARMRIT) and registration within 6 months of employment. Required Classes/Skills Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor (AHA) within 90 days of hire Required additional Knowledge and Abilities: Flexibility to work overtime/cover other than assigned shifts and other sites as needed. Holiday rotation is mandatory. Staff may be required to float among radiology off-sites and divisions associated with SSH as needed to maintain operations. Mondays 6:30a-3:00p at SSH, Wednesdays & Thursdays 6:30a-7:00p at Off-site (PP or CC), Fridays 6:30a-3:00p at SSH as needed.
