In this role, as Surgical Technician 3, you help in surgeries during the operation phase. You assist a Registered Nurse to improve efficiency by managing equipment and instruments. Your job is vital for a safe operating room, keeping equipment ready and working well. You will manage supplies and equipment for a specific surgical service line. Additionally, you will communicate between the service line, surgeons, and team members. Essential Functions Of The Role

Talking to the surgeon beforehand concerning special needs and getting ready before they show up. Cleaning and preparing the surgical area as needed. Ensuring proper setup and maintenance of the instrument table to prevent instrument damage. Making sure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies function as expected during surgical procedures. Performing counts of all surgical items, such as sponges, sharps, and instruments, following the appropriate policies and procedures. Anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, offering sterile supplies and equipment, and responding accordingly during the surgery. Assisting in draping and repositioning the patient for the surgical team. Adhering to specified protocols when handling surgical specimens and verifying their source. Preparing soiled instruments for transit to the decontamination area. Cleaning the operating room after each case and organizing equipment in designated storage areas. Adhering to infection control policies, recommended practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Managing inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, following established policy, procedures, and regulatory standards. Key Success Factors

An understanding of sterilization standards and how to prevent infections is crucial. Familiarity with sterile and aseptic techniques, both in theory and application. Surgeons should have deep knowledge of human body, surgeries, and tools necessary for procedures. They require expertise in invasive techniques. Proficiency in communication and building relationships to efficiently collaborate with the surgical and central sterile processing team members. Capacity to occasionally work in an environment with potential chemical and radiation hazards. Completion of all necessary educational and certification requirements and a history of successful accomplishments in the same. Belonging Statement

EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program EXPERIENCE - (2) Two Years of Experience CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within (30) thirty days of hire or transfer. Cert Surgical Technologist (CST): CST from NBSTSA or NCCT (EDU must be CAAHEP accredited) If CAN or EMPL has experience prior to 9/1/2009 in healthcare or military, GAP and Cert will not be required & Min Qual: HS/GED If CAN or EMPL does not have experience prior to 2009, GAP and CST are required.
