Job Description The CT Technologist performs CT scans according to established protocols. Demonstrates an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. Maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. Maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. Prepares for and assists the radiologist with intricate CT examinations including a range of tissue biopsies and fluid drainages. Prepares for and administers contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations. Produces CT scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy. Evaluates finished images/series for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality. Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations including use of correct FOV, lead shields as appropriate, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years. Performs venipuncture and contrast injections in accordance with department and hospital guidelines. Ensures examinations are complete and logged in the computer system. Instructs Radiologic Technology students in CT Scan positioning and technique. Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services. Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures. Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities. Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure that customer expectations are met, including flexibility in scheduled hours. Supports quality improvement programs in the department. Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital. Ensures assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure
Graduate of a JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology Registered with ARRT KY Radiation Operators certification BLS CT Certification preferred at time of hire but required within 1 year of employment.
