Overview
Roadside Assistance Technician / Tow Driver at AAA-The Auto Club Group. Full-time, hourly, exempt/non-exempt details as applicable. Responsibilities
Operates tow trucks or light service vehicles to provide Emergency Road Service (ERS) to AAA members as requested. Receives call information (location of disabled vehicle) from the Customer Interaction Center and responds to the scene of disablement. Identifies the problem, verifies possession of a valid AAA membership card, and provides service including tire changes, fuel delivery, battery testing, battery jumpstarts, battery installations, minor mechanical adjustments, and lockout service following established procedures. Arranges for or tows the vehicle, following specific instructions from the tow manual when the vehicle cannot be started or is unsafe to drive. Conducts pre- and post-trip DOT checklists; documents vehicle issues or maintenance requirements; cleans the service vehicle regularly. Tracks and records daily activities by completing call logs, vehicle logs, receipts, etc.; uses tablets or electronic devices to update calls and review procedures. Maintains a safe driving record and DOT certification; reports driving infractions to management. Maintains acceptable goals and scores related to member satisfaction, on-the-go service, calls per hour, and safety. May provide support at special events (e.g., parades, travel shows, Car Care or Public Relations events). Qualifications
Education : Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Licensing : Valid state drivers license with minimal driving infractions; if applicable, Illinois C-Non CDL license. Successful completion of drug screening, MVR, criminal background check, and DOT health screenings (pre-employment and ongoing). Experience : Customer service experience with ability to communicate effectively with customers/members and meet/exceed expectations. Knowledge and Skills
Safely operate a full-size or mini service van or tow truck and equipment to assist AAA members and motorists. Lift up to 75 pounds; use GPS/maps to locate breakdown sites; read and interpret AAA ERS rules and benefits. Communicate effectively, maintain accurate records, work independently, and perform basic math. Complete AAA training programs and support team goals. Preferred Qualifications
Experience servicing vehicles (fuel, battery testing/replacement, jumpstarts, lockouts, tire changes/inflation). Prior tow truck or roadside service experience; ability to operate wheel lift, flatbed, dolly towing equipment, and service vehicle. Commercial driving experience. Work Environment
Provides roadside service to AAA members; primarily office-based with frequent exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes. Minimal time in temperature-controlled office environment. Equal Opportunity
