Position Description This posting will fill Full-time, Permanent, Safety Sensitive, Electrical Technician I or II positions in the Electrical Technician Proficiency advancement series in the Department of Public Works, in Utility Operations. The proficiency advancement series consists of Electrical Technician I, Electrical Technician II, Electrical Technician III and Senior Electrical Technician. Employees advance non-competitively through the Electrical Technician series by obtaining additional skills and certifications and receiving skill-based pay increases. A pre-hire test is conducted prior to an offer of employment to determine the candidate's technical skill level and qualifications for the position to be filled. Note:

The information below reflects the responsibilities, qualifications, and supplemental qualifications for Electrical Technician I and Electrical Technician II positions in this series. Responsibilities

Electrical Technician I This is entry-level electrical technician work in the Bureau of Utilities, Department of Public Works. Work involves basic level preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems installed in the collection and treatment of municipal wastewater and the production, storage and distribution of potable water. Responsibilities include independent performance of basic preventive maintenance tasks, inspection of operating conditions, installation of basic electrical components and circuits, and assisting others with intermediate and advanced corrective maintenance tasks. Work is primarily electrical but may include minor mechanical duties. Work is performed under specific instructions from a senior co-worker or supervisor and is inspected for quality, effectiveness and safety during and after tasks. Electrical Technician II This is intermediate-level electrical technician work in the Bureau of Utilities, Department of Public Works. Work involves intermediate level preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and systems in wastewater and water operations. Responsibilities include independent performance of intermediate level preventive maintenance tasks, inspection of operating conditions, installation of electrical components and circuits, troubleshooting and corrective maintenance, and assisting others with advanced corrective maintenance tasks. Work is performed under specific instructions from a senior co-worker or supervisor and is inspected for quality, effectiveness and safety during and after tasks. Minimum Qualifications

Electrical Technician I : Graduation from high school; one (1) or more years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems; qualified to enter or successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship program registered with the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license. Electrical Technician II : Graduation from high school; Maintenance Career Path certification as an Electrical Technician I; two (2) or more years of experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment and systems; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license. Notes: The Electrical Technician II position requires possession of Maintenance Career Path certification as an Electrical Technician I. This certification can be substituted with completion of a 2-year electrical apprenticeship program registered with the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council that includes 288 documented hours of electrical training and 4000 hours of work processes. Longevity pay is available based on years of service. This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol testing.

Supplemental Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with the following: Industrial experience in programming and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's). Industrial experience in the installation and maintenance of complex electrical motor control circuits.
