The Paul Robeson Galleries was founded in 1979 at the Robeson Campus Center at Rutgers University Newark. Named after one of the Universitys most famous alumni, the galleries mission and programming embody Paul Robesons lifelong commitment to artistic freedom, cultural democracy, and transnationalism. The galleries feature a network of exhibition spaces on campus, extensive community outreach, education programs, and a series of public events including happenings, lectures, panels, readings, receptions, and performances. Rutgers UniversityNewark (RU-N), an urban public research university located in Newark, New Jersey, is seeking a Head Preparator. This role is essential for the planning and execution of exhibitions of contemporary visual art. Art requires specialized handling by professional preparators for unpacking, installation, de-installation, maintenance, packing, and transportation. Artworks are protected by loan agreements and Rutgers insurance policies to prevent damage from mishandling. This position is responsible for: Overseeing all aspects of art exhibition installation and de-installation, including wall preparation, lighting, and object placement Leading the installation and de-installation of exhibitions across the Rutgers Newark campus Assisting in artwork transportation, managing inventory, artwork storage, and preparation according to museum standards Inspecting and repairing gallery labels, didactics, pedestals, and walls regularly Performing other duties as assigned Head Preparator
