Position Summary

The Grant Writer is a key member of the Development team, responsible for securing private and public funding by researching, writing, and submitting compelling proposals and grant applications that support the organizations mission, programs, and strategic initiatives. The Grant Writer will also prepare timely reports, cultivate funder relationships, and collaborate closely with program staff to ensure strong alignment between program needs and funding opportunities. Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Management

Research, write, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Maintain a calendar of proposal and report deadlines and ensure timely submissions. Track proposal outcomes and funder communications in CRM/Raisers Edge.

Funder Stewardship & Cultivation

Support the cultivation and stewardship of grant funders by drafting acknowledgment letters, updates, and impact communications. Participate in funder meetings and site visits, as appropriate.

Program Collaboration

Work closely with program directors and finance staff to gather data, budgets, and narratives for proposals and reports. Translate program goals and impact into compelling case statements and outcomes-focused language.

Prospect Research

Identify new funding opportunities that align with Living Classrooms mission, programs, and strategic priorities. Conduct research on foundation, corporate, and government funders to inform engagement strategies.

Qualifications

Minimum 35 years of grant writing experience, preferably in a nonprofit or education-focused setting. Proven success securing grants from foundations, corporations, and/or government agencies. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a clear, concise, and persuasive style. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Knowledge of philanthropy, funding trends, and grant research tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with donor databases (Raiser's Edge preferred). Passion for education, workforce development, and community empowerment. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with federal grant applications (e.g., DOJ, DOL) is a plus. Familiarity with outcome-based reporting and logic models. Compensation & Benefits
