We are looking for a Core Java Developer in Chicago, IL.
Position type: Contract to Hire Duration: 6+ Months
## Primary Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot - Implement new features according to product requirements and technical specifications - Conduct performance testing and optimization of microservice components - Write comprehensive unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality - Interface directly with product teams to understand requirements and provide technical consultation - Participate in systems design discussions and architectural planning - Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering teams on shared features and integration points - Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices and code quality - Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems - Document technical designs, APIs, and processes for knowledge sharing
## Technical Requirements
### Required Skills - 3+ years of professional Java development experience - Strong experience with Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot - Experience building and deploying microservices in production environments - Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles - Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL - Proficiency in unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, etc.) - Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines - Understanding of containerization concepts (Docker, Kubernetes) - Knowledge of messaging systems, especially Kafka - Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
### Preferred Skills - Experience in the banking or financial services industry - Familiarity with AWS cloud services and infrastructure - Experience with reactive programming models - Understanding of event-driven architecture patterns - Experience with performance testing tools - Knowledge of security best practices in financial applications - Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) - Familiarity with observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing) - Experience mentoring junior developers

## Work Environment - **Location**: Fully on-site at Chase offices - **Schedule**: Standard business hours with flexibility as needed - **On-Call**: Participation in on-call rotation required - **Methodology**: Agile/Scrum with 2-week sprints - **Team Structure**: Cross-functional team including developers, QA engineers, product managers, and designers
## Success Metrics - Quality of code contributions as measured by peer reviews and testing metrics - Ability to deliver features on schedule - Technical problem-solving capabilities - Collaboration effectiveness with team members and cross-functional partners - Contributions to team knowledge base and documentation
