[Date not specified, appears incomplete] The Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB) invites qualified persons to apply for a tenure-track assistant professor position starting September 1, 2026. Candidates should demonstrate research and teaching strengths in the sociology of gender/sexualities, with a preference for those able to teach Queer Theory/Methods. Experience teaching a first-year sociology course requiring qualitative methods is preferred. Candidates should have an emerging or established research program with potential for external funding, a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, and the capacity to contribute to diversity initiatives and public service. Our department serves a large undergraduate program with majors in Sociology and Criminology & Criminal Justice. We also offer graduate programs including a Master’s and PhD in Sociology. Faculty are expected to teach courses across undergraduate and graduate levels. UMass Boston is classified as an R-1 research university by the Carnegie Foundation, emphasizing high research activity. There are numerous collaborative opportunities related to the sociology of gender/sexualities through various departments and centers, including Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Gender, Leadership, and Public Policy Certificate program, the Consortium on Gender, Security and Human Rights, and the Center for Women in Politics & Public Policy.
