About the Job
Anduril is seeking a skilled Navigation Engineer with strong experience in covariance analysis and a deep understanding of fundamental navigation principles. Expertise in robotics-focused pose localization techniques is a significant advantage. This role emphasizes the design and implementation of Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) while leveraging sensor fusion algorithms and pose estimation methods for precise navigation of maritime vehicles. The ideal candidate will be a proven technical leader who can influence our organization to make the right decisions, demonstrate customer empathy, build trust with partners, mentor teammates, and transform culture within the team.
What You’ll Do Analyze mission requirements and constraints across the Maritime product portfolio to determine optimal navigation system architecture
Represent the priorities and constraints of the Maritime product portfolio in an Anduril-wide navigation and estimation community of practice
Augment core Anduril navigation products to include Maritime-specific capabilities. Continuously integrate with the core product team.
Lead our navigation strategy, roadmap and solution architecture
Drive evaluation and integration of advanced alternative navigation aiding sources
Design, develop, integrate and test inertial navigation systems (INS) for maritime vehicles
Develop algorithms for navigation, guidance, and control systems, including extended Kalman filters and other estimation methods using various programming languages
Develop advanced sensor fusion algorithms leveraging INS, GNSS, cameras, sonar, and other sensors for highly precise navigation in complex maritime environments
Apply covariance analysis techniques to optimize navigation system performance, error modeling, and system uncertainty assessments, and early requirements derivation
Adapt and apply real-time pose localization algorithms from robotics to enhance the accuracy and robustness of maritime vehicle navigation where applicable (desired)
Architect and improve calibration procedures for sensor suites used in maritime navigation systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate navigation solutions into overall maritime systems
Conduct rigorous simulation and testing for validation of navigation algorithms and systems performance
Leverage and build on Anduril's advanced simulation and GNC infrastructure
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and research in maritime navigation technologies
Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
8 or more years of experience in Guidance, Navigation & Control engineering or related technical experience
Strong knowledge of navigation principles, including inertial navigation and GPS
Experience with navigation system design, development and testing on maritime or aerospace systems
Deep expertise in Kalman filtering, Extended Kalman filtering, and other estimation techniques
Experience with real-time systems and embedded software development is a plus
Knowledge of sensor fusion and data integration techniques
Demonstrated expertise in covariance analysis methodologies and transfer alignment techniques
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
General knowledge of guidance and flight control systems
Experience applying covariance analysis techniques to optimize navigation system performance, error modeling, and system uncertainty assessments, and requirements methods
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications Autonomous vehicle navigation experience
Adapt and apply real-time pose localization algorithms from robotics to enhance the accuracy and robustness of vehicle navigation where applicable
US Salary Range: $168,000 - $252,000 USD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
