The Position
Job Summary: Under general supervision, to organize and supervise aquatic activities at a community swimming pool and to perform related duties as required. Work Schedule: Varies from Sunday-Saturday from 7:00 am-9:00 pm. Essential Duties
Assigns, instructs, and supervises the work of swim instructors, lifeguards, and cashiers at a community swimming pool. Enforces established rules and regulations governing the safe use of pools. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming area. Tests pool water for correct chemical balance to meet State and local requirements. Assists in maintaining filtration and chlorination system. Instructs swimming and lifeguard classes. Rescues bathers. Directs the work of lifeguards making rescues. Renders first aid and CPR. Prepares and reviews reports of rescues and unusual occurrences. Supervises and coaches water sports and aquatic programs. Disseminates information on policies and procedures to the public. Completes paperwork for classes and programs and assists with registrations and cash handling, including use of a computer-based recreation registration program. Performs daily facility inspections. Assists in staff training. Qualifications
Education and/or Experience: Completion of formal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance and approximately six months experience as a lifeguard. Knowledge of: Lifeguarding, CPR, first aid, and water safety instruction. Chemical usage and balance related to pool water maintenance. Filtration and chlorination systems. Basic computer skills. Skill and/or Ability to: Learn the principles of supervision. Perform rescues and render first aid and CPR as necessary. Provide instruction in swimming and aquatic programs. Enforce water safety rules and regulations. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and deal tactfully with the public. License and Certifications: Possession of a valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate; possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Standard First Aid certificate; possession of an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificate. Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training certificate is desirable.
