Overview
We are currently assisting our client, a private family office, with a search for a Vice President of Human Resources.
The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) is both a strategic and operational leader, responsible for developing, executing, and actively driving the organization’s human resource strategy in alignment with the overall business plan and strategic vision. This role encompasses all core HR functions, including succession planning, talent acquisition and management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, benefits and total rewards. Operating within a lean HR team, the VP of HR is expected to be highly hands-on, directly engaging with daily HR operations, programs, and initiatives while simultaneously shaping long-term strategic priorities. This requires balancing visionary leadership with practical execution, ensuring that strategic plans translate into tangible, timely, and high-quality outcomes. The VP of HR serves as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership and Principals, effectively articulating HR needs, opportunities, and solutions, while fostering a people-first culture that supports business growth, employee engagement, and organizational resilience. In this capacity, the VP of HR leads by example—demonstrating adaptability, resourcefulness, and a commitment to excellence in a fast-moving, high-impact environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the vision and long-term goals of the Principals and Executive Leadership team.
- Lead and oversee HR programs across all functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, DEI, compliance, learning & development, and compensation & benefits.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on human capital matters.
- Oversee workforce planning and organizational structure, ensuring the company attracts, retains, and develops top talent.
- Drive strategies that support employee engagement, satisfaction, and well-being.
- Foster a high-performance culture that emphasizes collegial relationships, trust, confidentiality, discretion, and excellent judgement.
- Ensure legal compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develop and manage the HR budget and oversee compensation benchmarking and analysis.
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels to build trust and transparency across the organization.
- Lead change management initiatives to support organizational transformation and growth.
Skills, Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including 5+ years at a senior or executive level.
- Expert knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law; SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certification preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, with a history of effectively handling complex and sensitive matters; prior experience managing ER matters in Washington, New York, and Florida strongly preferred.
- Clear understanding of HR compliance and regulatory requirements across multi-state operations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution in dynamic, complex, and high-growth environments.
- Proven success leading the design, implementation, and improvement of HR programs in a lean team environment, requiring a balance of strategic vision and hands-on execution.
- Strong background in change management and organizational development, with the ability to lead transformation initiatives while maintaining employee engagement.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly to shifting demands, and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a track record of driving measurable business and people outcomes.
