Job Title
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join a leading waste management company's fleet maintenance team. This role ensures the safety, performance, and reliability of diesel-powered vehicles critical to daily operations.
Key Responsibilities of our Diesel Mechanic:
- Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using tools and equipment to identify root causes.
- Repair engines, transmissions, braking, electrical, and other vehicle systems.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Ensure all work meets safety standards and company policies; maintain accurate records.
- Identify and order necessary parts, collaborating with the parts department.
- Document work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and issues found.
- Coordinate with the Fleet Maintenance Manager and team to prioritize work orders.
- Respond to breakdowns and perform timely emergency repairs.
Qualifications of a Diesel Mechanic:
- Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience in fleet or heavy equipment environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and repair procedures.
- Skilled in diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, detail orientation, and ability to work independently.
- Team player with strong communication skills.
- ASE certification or equivalent preferred; valid CDL a plus.
Work Environment:
- Garage/workshop setting with exposure to loud noises, machinery, and weather.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform demanding tasks.
