Overview

The Sales Representative is responsible for the sales activity as well as relationship building and follow up for their assigned territory. This position is responsible for identifying new sales opportunities with existing clients as well as prospects. They will develop diversified market strategies aligned to meet/exceed specific sales and leading indicator goals for their territory and develop an automated business development plan in the company CRM and related systems and execute accordingly. They will maintain and implement key customer plans, including annual territory plans and weekly game plans. The Sales Representative establishes meaningful objectives and adapts their style to the customer. They must have a good understanding of the competitive landscape and how to navigate it to produce results. This position will also be responsible for meeting/exceeding the expected sales volume established by the annual budget, with the amount dependent on market size and potential growth of the assigned region. The Sales Representative is responsible for communication with the field technical representatives as well as the technical department related to product or system issues and/or the development of products or systems to meet industry needs. They are also responsible for activities within the assigned territory such as site visits, client support, and administration of established training programs in cooperation with the SOPREMA technical department.

  • Build and maintain relationships in addition to formally educating and motivating customers, including contractors, building owners, specifiers, and distributors.
  • Fluent with company CRM.
  • Connect with community influencers.
  • Creatively market yourself and SOPREMA.
  • Understand and communicate the company goals and growth objectives.
  • Monitor and review sales results against budget.
  • Know how to get things done through formal and informal channels.
  • Work within organizational strategies, structures, and processes in flexible and practical ways.
  • Arrange information and work processes in a useful and logical manner.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry and market trends; anticipate future consequences and trends with broad knowledge and perspective.
  • Maintain a professional presence in industry and community activities and events; promote SOPREMA solutions.
  • Communicate with corporate office departments to transfer market information, requirements, and technical concerns.
  • Behave maturely and invest time and effort to gain buy-in to ideas and activities.
  • Set challenging objectives and be accountable for performance.
  • Manage conflict, ambiguity, and information in a constructive manner.
  • May require additional functions as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge with a minimum of 5 years selling experience in the building materials industry; preferably with a manufacturer, independent sales representative, or distributor.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and distribution methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and team-building skills.
  • Executive-level presentation, selling, and negotiating skills, online and customer facing.
  • Excellent listening and questioning skills.
  • Resourceful, flexible, and adaptive.
  • Ability to work outside of the box (flexibility).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Demands

  • The Sales Representative shall be in good physical condition as required. The physical demands include driving long distances (valid driver's license required), flying, climbing and descending stairs and ladders, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and ability to communicate clearly via telephone, in person, and in writing.
  • This position will require regular travel within the region and in the United States.
  • Some after-hours meetings and weekend activities may be required to accomplish duties.

Reports to the District Sales Manager or Regional Sales Manager, depending on the structure of the region.
