Responsibilities
The Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing exceptional customer service and administrative support in a fast-paced medical office. This role is essential in ensuring a smooth patient experience from check-in to check-out, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet patients and visitors warmly, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations or referrals.
Collect and process co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic and insurance information.
Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and route messages appropriately.
Assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures.
Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow.
Handle medical records requests in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Support administrative tasks such as scanning, faxing, and filing.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical office training preferred.
4-5 years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a team-oriented environment.
Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is a plus.
Bilingual skills are a plus.
