Medical Laboratory Scientist II - RRL Float

Location: Minneapolis, MN Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM (Rotational Weekends) Under minimal supervision, incumbent(s) will consistently and accurately perform a greater number or more varied amount of complex or difficult tests and assignments than the work performed by a Phlebotomist II and a Medical Technologist I. Responsibilities Consistently and independently performs clinical testing. Optional: perform phlebotomy duties for designated sites where required. Oversees preparation of reagents or media, stock solutions, standards and controls; evaluates new tests and reagents; ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies. Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Handles proficiency testing samples and ensures proper handling to avoid inappropriate referrals. Ensures instrument testing accuracy: performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks; performs quality control and calibrations; reports results and communicates shifts or trends to the supervisor. Maintains instrument maintenance logs, daily temperature readings, and daily surface decontamination; maintains and files records related to testing (quality control data, instrument maintenance, service records, patient records) per Records Retention Schedule; participates in proficiency testing. Accurately enters results, reviews reports, and monitors result reporting accuracy. Recognizes and responds to critical values or unusual results; documents actions taken. Troubleshoots technical, instrument, and operational problems; notifies supervisor and, if needed, contacts manufacturer or field service; documents issues and corrective actions; ensures patient testing is not delayed when instruments are non-operational. Trains technical staff in routine and complex procedures; provides technical direction to staff; may provide feedback on learning progress. Assists supervisors/managers with scheduling and workload planning; provides coverage at designated sites. Participates in staff meetings and Quality Improvement activities; maintains effective communication with peers and other departments. Takes on additional responsibilities or projects as delegated (e.g., evaluating new techniques, cost analysis, procedure writing, productivity measures). Maintains professional growth through continuing education; adheres to company policies and safety guidelines; maintains confidentiality.

Qualifications Required Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience. If performing/overseeing phlebotomy services, a minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience. Phlebotomy experience is required.

Preferred Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience in a multiple RRL/Stat Lab setting and 5 years phlebotomy experience (if performing). Physical And Mental Requirements

Must be capable of driving to multiple sites within a day. Self-motivated and able to work independently; highly organized and detail oriented. Excellent communication skills. Lift and carry items as needed (1-15 lbs frequently, 16-25 lbs occasionally, 26-40 lbs rarely; >40 lbs requires assistance). Ability to sit or stand for long periods; good eye-hand coordination; ability to perform repetitive tasks.

Knowledge

College diploma/transcript required. Foreign educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF.

Skills and Licenses

Current state licensure, if applicable (required). Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states, e.g., California, Nevada, Washington, and Louisiana). Valid drivers license (required).
