Air Force Reserve Technician Position

Air Reserve Technicians are full-time civilian employees who are also members of the Air Force Reserve unit in which they are employed. In addition to their civilian assignments, they are assigned to equivalent positions in the Reserve organization with a Reserve military rank or grade. Appointee's civilian assignments will consist of the following duties. Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer to serve as the Senior ART/Mission Support Group Commander at a tenant location, responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and controlling the activities and operations of the Mission Support Group. Responsibilities include: Planning, directing, organizing, and managing the Mission Support Group program including logistics planning and readiness, security forces, civil engineering, communications, services, and personnel. Managing a limited number of support functions or does not have the full complement of base support services as these services are provided by the host activity. Exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Directing, coordinating, and overseeing work through subordinate supervisors. Advising staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher-level management or headquarters. Representing the wing with a variety of installation/functional area organizations. Establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships with other group CCs, representatives/senior staff at Numbered AF, HQ AFRC, and gaining MAJCOMs. Accomplishing special staff studies and projects resulting from reorganizations, regulatory changes, new technology, mission changes, etc. Identifying the need for studies, establishing goals and objectives, and accomplishing research. Collaborating and coordinating with representatives of host base, other AFRC tenant locations, and HQ AFRC to develop action plan regarding subject that provides positive benefit. Requirements: Conditions of employment and qualifications are based on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, series 0301. Specialized experience includes performing work with in-depth knowledge of planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and controlling the activities and operations of the Mission Support Group. This includes logistics planning and readiness, communications, civil engineering, personnel, security forces, and services. Manages and directs the Mission Support Group through subordinate supervisors tasked to coordinate and oversee the work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-12 grade/level or equivalent position in the federal service. Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 grade level or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the federal civil service to be considered for referral. Other significant facts: This is an ART position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to fly in commercial or military aircraft for performance of TDY. Incumbent must be willing to move/transfer to another unit/location on a lateral or promotion as directed by HQ AFRC. This is a key management position in which the incumbent is required to formulate, determine or influence training policies of the unit to which assigned. The incumbent must possess demonstrated leadership and managerial abilities essential to successful accomplishment of the responsibilities inherent in a senior command position. Part-time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education: If position has a positive degree requirement or education forms the basis for qualifications, you must submit transcripts with the application.
