Job Description Sorting Technician

PURPOSE: To maintain the set-up and operation for the inspection equipment, and provide training for both the inspection equipment and hand sorting applications for the Sorting Department to confirm that product meets the quality requirements. POSITION EXPECTATIONS AND JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: Skill and ability to interpret specifications, customer drawings and Driv-Lok drawings and/or shop orders to establish product conformance. Responsible to set-up, operate, troubleshoot, and interpret all Driv-Lok inspection equipment (e.g., LED, Laser, Electronic sorters). Understands the proper use of various precision measuring instruments. Responsible to oversee and assist with hand sorting. Responsible to perform all record keeping responsibilities for assigned area. Understands the process for entering stock into inventory. Responsible to train automatic inspection personnel, hand sort personnel and some material handling. Responsible to process and propose disposition of inspected and rejected product. Responsible to schedule department work load, contact Supervisor with necessary overtime requirements, and work with Supervisor and Plant Controller on load analysis and action plans. Responsible to maintain low past due work order hours and keep open orders at less than 30 days backlog. Must be a good communicator with both internal and external individuals. Responsible for good housekeeping in assigned area. All other duties as assigned by supervisor or his/her designee. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts in a factory environment with noise, oil, and smoke. The employee will be working with inspection equipment, precision measuring instruments, vibrator feeders, hand and fork lift trucks, scoops, weight scales, hoist and copy machine. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, bend, and stand a majority of the shift.
