GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to receive incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, to dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and other personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner, to maintain accurate and complete dispatch records, and to perform related work as required. The position works according to set procedures under occasional supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Perform computer aided dispatching work. Monitor and respond to radio communications. Track location of field units, provide info and directions. Dispatch back up assistance as needed. Provide support for field officers including requested judicial, FBI and local criminal histories, sex offender registries and other felon or criminal records. Initiate calls to persons at the request of officers; wreckers etc. Transmit and receive information regarding criminal activity on NCIC computer. Provide routine assistance and information to caller such as providing directions. Maintain related records, forms, logs, etc. Monitor weather radio and alerts appropriate personnel of inclement conditions. Receives and responds to public inquires, requests. Prepares and submits various reports as required. Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform skilled work involving rules/ systems with almost constant problem solving. Ability to utilize manuals and maps to solve practical problems, fill out forms, file and enter information into CAD. Ability to maintain a normal attention span with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Ability to stay calm during stressful emergency situations. Ability to type 35 words per minute.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Required : None. Preferred : None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure indoor office environment.
