Assort Health, Inc.
Our mission is to make exceptional healthcare accessible anytime, anywhere, for everyone.
Assort is led by Jon (Founder of Shimmer, former UCSF med student, AI researcher at Stanford) and Jeff (ex-Facebook, first engineer at Cameo, former Head of Product Engineering at Athelas/Commure).
In 2023, we became the first agentic AI to answer patient calls. Since then, we've powered tens of millions of patient interactions, helping health organizations and patients provide better access to care. We're growing fast with millions in ARR every month.
We're well-funded and backed by Quiet Capital, First Round, Chemistry, and strategic angels from Flatiron, Athena Health, Mercury, and PathAI. More funding news coming soon :).
Join us to build Assort OS — a customizable fleet of genAI agents transforming patient-provider interactions.
About the Role As an Engineering Manager at Assort Health, you’ll split your time between hands-on IC work (designing, coding, and shipping core systems) and people/team leadership. In partnership with Ops (our customer-insight conduit), you’ll enable your team to execute on their goals and scale to deliver the best patient and client experience. Your top priorities are 1) deep technical ownership and 2) high-EQ team leadership.
You’ll be leading the team responsible for our new product, AssortOS. AssortOS is our CRM and workflow platform powered by our industry leading, safe, specialty turned, multimodal, patient-facing AI agents.
Now: GenAI patient engagement; Next: care navigation & payer-call automation.
What You’ll Do
Extreme Ownership & Collaboration (~50%)
Design and deliver
critical AssortOS services while balancing scalability, performance, and security.
Collaborate and translate
customer insights from Ops into clear technical requirements, breaking down complex problems into scoped deliverables that move the needle for patients and providers.
Team Delivery & Execution (~30%)
Own team-level OKRs : manage scope, unblock engineers, and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
Rapidly ship
MVPs and drive continuous improvement on performance, reliability, and user delight.
Establish and uphold
engineering best practices: architecture reviews, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and on-call rotations.
People Development (~20%)
Mentor and grow
a team from 4 to 10 engineers: give regular and actionable feedback
Champion and model
Assort’s values by driving high-velocity execution with empathy.
Note : As your team scales, the percentage of IC work will decrease while responsibilities around People Development and Management will grow.
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a technical-lead or engineering manager role.
Demonstrated ability to partner with non-engineering functions
Strong systems-thinking: you balance technical scalability, time-to-market, and user value under uncertainty.
Exceptional communicator who can influence engineers, operators, and executives alike.
Comfortable and proficient at wearing both Manager + IC hats
Familiar with AI agent space and complicated, deep integrations w/bespoke systems
Passion for Assort’s mission of improving patient access through innovative technology.
