Position Summary: The Utility Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all aspects of underground utility installation. Including water, sewer, storm drain, and related systems, on Sunrock’s heavy civil projects. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on budget, and in compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination
Review project drawings, specifications, and schedules. Plan manpower, equipment, and material needs for daily and weekly operations. Coordinate utility work with grading, paving, and subcontractor operations.
Field Supervision & Leadership
Direct and supervise utility crews in the installation of utilities such as water, sewer, storm, and related systems. Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to foremen, operators, and laborers. Foster teamwork and resolve field conflicts.
Quality Control & Compliance
Ensure utility installations meet plans, codes, and company standards. Oversee testing, inspections, and as-built documentation. Maintain accuracy and prevent rework.
Safety Management
Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety procedures. Monitor trench safety, confined space operations, and daily toolbox talks. Stop unsafe work immediately and correct hazards.
Resource Management
Manage manpower, equipment, and material resources to maximize productivity. Track material usage. Ensure efficient use of company resources.
Communication & Documentation
Serve as the primary point of contact for utility operations in the field. Communicate effectively with the Construction manager, General Superintendent, project managers, engineers, inspectors, and utility companies.
Problem-Solving & Cost Control
Identify and resolve conflicts with existing utilities or unforeseen site conditions. Support change order documentation and assist with RFIs. Monitor productivity to maintain budget and schedule goals.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience
in utility construction supervision within heavy civil projects. Strong knowledge of underground utility installation, trenching, and compaction methods. Proven leadership and communication skills. Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications. OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training preferred. Valid driver’s license
