Senior Linux Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Engineer to support the ELSYS Task Order. This role is embedded within the TGS team and is instrumental in supporting the IT and Cyber Security Division at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) in China Lake. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments and a strong understanding of secure, mission-critical systems in DoD settings. The role includes: Build, configure, and maintain RHEL 8 systems in support of enterprise and lab environments. Integrate and manage Ansible for automation of system deployment and configuration. Configure and maintain network-attached storage (NAS) solutions such as NFS and SMB. Integrate RHEL systems into Windows domains for centralized system management. Perform system upgrades from older RHEL versions, ensuring compatibility with engineering applications. Apply system hardening techniques and ensure compliance with STIGs and cybersecurity policies. Patch and manage RHEL/Linux repositories to maintain system security and compliance. Install, configure, and troubleshoot engineering and mission-critical software on RHEL systems. Deploy and manage Splunk Enterprise across various labs. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Implement and maintain secure configurations in accordance with DoD cybersecurity standards. Support audit readiness by maintaining documentation and compliance artifacts. Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to ensure systems meet RMF and STIG requirements. Work closely with existing System Administrators to assess current infrastructure and identify modernization opportunities. Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing. Support stakeholder engagement by translating mission needs into technical solutions. Preferred Qualifications: Extensive hands-on experience with RHEL 8 in secure, DoD-compliant environments. Strong background in Linux system administration, automation, and cybersecurity. Familiarity with NAWCWD or similar DoD environments is highly desirable. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven, fast-paced setting. Active security clearance required.
