City Prosecutor
Serves as the legal representative and prosecutor for the city in municipal court, handling cases involving violations of city ordinances, traffic offenses, and misdemeanor criminal matters, including all appeals to District Court. Reviewing police reports, filing charges, preparing cases for trial, presenting evidence, examining witnesses, negotiating plea agreements, arguing motions and conducting trials. Provides legal advice to law enforcement and city officials on matters related to criminal law and procedure. Ensures that prosecutions are conducted fairly, ethically and efficiently. Works to promote justice and public safety within the community. Work cooperatively with other city employees, officers, victims, court service staff, appointed and retained counsel and the public. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledgeable of laws, ordinances, codes, policies and procedures affecting law enforcement. Ability to exercise broad discretion in reviewing, filing, denial and prosecution of cases with the objective of producing the most just result. Assist in developing systematic procedures to search persons, vehicles, structures, or areas for contraband, criminal activity, or wanted subjects.
