Senior AV Engineer (7355U), Haas School of Business - 65478 Senior AV Engineer position at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. This role involves applying user-centered design processes, engineering, and AV IT best practices to design, evaluate, and modify AV systems and related documentation. The role includes client communication, project coordination, and collaboration with construction and IT teams to ensure installations meet codes and standards.

Overview The Haas Digital team supports online and hybrid learning environments for the Haas School of Business. The successful candidate will lead complex AV IT projects from needs assessment through design, installation, commissioning, and hand-off, aligning designs with codes and AV IT engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

Maintenance and troubleshooting of complex AV systems including audio programming (QSC, Tesira and similar), Dante audio, Crestron control and related firmware updates; device and cable repair as needed.

Coordinate with vendors, programmers, and installers; engage in stakeholder meetings and interviews.

Develop and manage a range of AV IT projects from assessment and design through installation and system commissioning; apply AV IT engineering principles to diverse environments.

Monitor change requests, RFIs, submittals, and other project documents; report on budget impact.

Coordinate with IT, structural, mechanical, and electrical professionals; coordinate inspections of projects and adjoining spaces with institutional inspectors and Capital Projects.

Develop short, medium, and long-range schedules for Haas classroom AV/IT renovation and upgrade programs.

Lead design of facilities and systems based on client needs, codes, regulations, and AV principles; create complex drawings and proposals using modeling software (AV flow diagrams, schematics, infrastructure drawings).

Provide documentation and drawings to clients for third-party installation firms; verify installations meet plan specifications.

Communicate assessment to clients and propose remediation as needed; schedule and assign projects to staff; provide guidance to lower-level AV or Educational Technology professionals.

Initiate product research and provide recommendations on trends, sources, and approaches with impact on Haas.

Review and estimate design costs, equipment, installation, labor, and materials; prepare bid packages and lead on-site bid walks; may lead a team.

Engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to a culture of DEIB within the unit and Haas; adhere to Haas’ Defining Leadership Principles.

Required Qualifications

Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities; able to apply principles within discipline to complex assignments.

Experience creating AV flow diagrams, schematics, and AV infrastructure drawings; managing phases of AV projects (scope, budget, design, bid, installation, inspection, testing, final walkthrough).

Ability to test and operate installed AV IT equipment; knowledge of electronics theory with emphasis on AV/IT control systems and signal flow; knowledge of acoustic design theory.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines; effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; self-motivated; capable of independent and team work; strong project management skills.

Advanced knowledge of audio, video and control systems; advanced knowledge of AV IT design and field implementation; demonstrated ability to lead projects or teams and maintain a climate of fairness and professionalism.

Minimum of 3 years of related work experience; demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

Applied knowledge of applicable codes and regulations; ability to provide technical advice based on AV principles.

Advanced knowledge of Crestron, Q-SYS, and Evertz systems; advanced knowledge of lecture capture and web conferencing systems.

Experience in an educational setting; professional AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I certifications; Crestron certification; Q-SYS certification.

Salary & Benefits This is a 100% full-time (40 hours a week) exempt career position, paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits. The budgeted salary range is $80,000.00 - $125,000.00.
