Basic Function

The Digital Media Specialist produces written content for various online platforms, including website articles and email newsletters. Researches, validates and develops clear and compelling content that adheres to required branding and style guidelines and promotes METRO's services and initiatives. The Digital Media Specialist combines creativity, storytelling, a passion for public service, and a pulse on the community to inform our riders of our services and initiatives in an engaging way. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Designs compelling graphics, writes concise and impactful captions, and produces short videos and reels tailored to various social media platforms. Captures original photography and videography at METRO events, press conferences, and community initiatives to showcase METRO's impact and activities in real time. Supports agency messaging by translating broader communication strategies into creative, sharable content under the direction of the Manager, Media. Posts and engages with followers across METRO's digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Collaborates closely with the Press Office and Communications team to ensure all content reflects METRO's priorities, messaging brand, and visual identity. Attends and covers events as needed, often with short notice, to create and share content that amplifies METRO's presence and involvement in the community. Keeps abreast of social media trends and suggests new content formats, styles, platforms, or ideas to keep METRO's messaging dynamic and relevant. Ensures content is ADA compliant and accessible to diverse audiences. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency's Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Pay Range: $$60,800 - 79,700

Education Requirement

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field is required.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum three (3) years' experience in social media content creation, digital communications or creative production. Experience in managing social media platforms, interpreting trends and using analytics. Familiarity with public service or government agency communications.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Strong photography and basic video editing skills with the ability to capture professional photos and videos. Understanding of the proper use of photography and videography equipment and best practices. Knowledge of AP Style Guide. Strong communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
