This classification level works under general supervision and is responsible for spending a majority of time in the courtroom and providing courtroom related work such as capturing and recording verbatim proceedings of court and maintaining case information during and after proceedings. Responsibilities may include preparing documents for each court session (e.g. label exhibits, prepare journal entries); recording proceedings; schedule further court hearings. Job duties include: Monitoring on-going case files, which includes identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received; monitoring case status; issuing and processing warrants and civil suspensions; tracking and maintaining files; and/or, performing other related activities. Processing and preparing casework for court sessions; notating court actions on applicable documents and forms; and/or, performing other related activities. Maintaining court calendar; scheduling interpreters, transportation, prosecutors, defense council, and/or events. Performing routine administrative support duties, which include scheduling court hearing meetings; labelling exhibits, preparing journal entries and preparing other standard documents for court session. Performing other duties of a similar nature or level. The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department. The Red Willow County Court in McCook, NE is taking applications for a full time County Courtroom Clerk position. This is responsible courtroom work related to capturing and maintaining a verbatim record of court proceedings in real time in a county court and entering case information during and after the proceedings. A person in this position spends on average 70% of work time in the courtroom. Travel with presiding Judge to the counties within the 11th judicial district in which the Judge presides in. Other duties include performing complex courtroom clerical duties, data entry, entering the Judge's decisions, findings, and other information into multiple screens in a fast, efficient, and accurate manner. Checks and operates electronic recording equipment to record and log court proceedings. Overseeing and assisting in the preparation of records and documents for court sessions; receiving, marking and recording exhibits; preparing and transporting exhibits for filing in the Clerk's office; acting as liaison for the judge with attorneys, court personnel and the public; setting matters for hearing; supervising signing in of witnesses, and transferring documents to the clerk. Provide backup office support as needed. Requirements/Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; and 2 years of courtroom clerk experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Customer service principles; Computers and related software applications; Criminal coding concepts; Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Office procedures, methods, and equipment; Data entry techniques. Skill Requirements: Providing customer service; Maintaining records; Performing data entry; Operating standard office equipment; Using computers and related software applications; Reviewing reports for accuracy; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Physical Requirements: Positions in this class work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required, not to exceed 20 LBS.
