About the Opportunity

Firmo Construction is seeking a Controller to lead our Accounting Department through a period of growth and expansion. This position, based in our Atlanta office, combines department leadership with hands-on project accounting. The Controller will establish and refine accounting procedures, oversee project-level financials, and provide strategic guidance to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial operations.

This is a critical leadership role that requires both a strategic mindset and a willingness to dive into detailsserving as a mentor to the accounting team, a partner to Project Managers and Executives, and a steward of Firmos financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Accounting Department, providing mentorship, training, and oversight for Project Accountants and accounting staff.
• Partner with leadership to provide financial insights that guide strategic decision-making.
  
• Establish, document, and refine financial policies and procedures to support scalability.
• Ensure accurate and timely month-end close, job cost reporting, and consolidated financials.
• Oversee project-level accounting, including job cost budgets, forecasting, billing, and change order management.
• Review project set-up, cost coding, and reporting in Procore and QuickBooks, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
• Ensure financial documentation is complete, compliant, and audit-ready; manage preparation for internal and external reviews.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance (COIs, lien waivers, and pay applications)
• Streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and implement best practices in construction accounting.
  
• Proactively identify areas for improvement in systems and reporting to drive accuracy and efficiency.
  

Qualifications

• 10+ years of project accounting experience in commercial construction, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or Controller-level role.
  
• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience with QuickBooks and Procore required.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting standards, compliance, and reporting.
  
• Proven ability to manage and mentor a team while also performing hands-on accounting duties.
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Comfortable balancing detail-oriented work with high-level financial strategy.
