Truck Driver
Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment. Promptly report, to immediate supervisor, all accidents involving truck, personal injury, or property damage and complete all necessary paperwork.
Perform daily walk-around inspection of the vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to maintain equipment in good operating condition. Report any problems immediately to the supervisor.
Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and personal items are removed daily.
Plan daily routing based on assigned pick-ups and make all scheduled calls, including boxes.
Responsible for developing the assigned route, including bagging or carding on both sides and across the street of each pick-up, as instructed.
You are a personal representative of The Salvation Army. Ensure all customers are treated courteously, donations are accepted or refused appropriately, and the Manual for Production Assistants is strictly followed. Any problems during pickups should be reported immediately to the dispatcher.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
Maintain complete and accurate records, such as delivery manifests, trip logs, Green Sheets, etc. Follow communication procedures and 10 codes strictly.
Responsible for loading and unloading the truck and assisting others as requested. Take care to secure and handle goods safely during loading and unloading, using blankets, ropes, etc., to:
- Prevent excessive movement of materials during transit.
- Avoid breakage, scratching, or other damage.
- Optimize space utilization.
Assist Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store (e.g., hampers to processing areas, furniture on the sales floor, removal of trash).
Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, recognizing that the helper is in a rehabilitation program. Set a good example and provide instruction to teach good habits.
This position supports the work therapy program of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by modeling professional conduct, work habits, and supervision as directed by the supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or administrator.
