JOB SUMMARY Under supervision, assists the practitioner, RN, or LPN in the examination, treatment, and care of patients in the assigned clinical area. Performs clinical or administrative duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the clinic nurse or physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include vital signs, specimen collection, administering medications, and maintaining electronic health records (EHR). This role ensures high-quality patient care while upholding safety and confidentiality standards. JOB DUTIES Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, patient confidentiality, facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements Adheres to customer service standards (i.e., AIDET.) Participate in staff training, in-services, and continuing education to maintain competency. Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and designated isolation procedures. Support emergency response efforts, including basic life support and first aid as required. Communicate with pharmacies, providers, and patients regarding prescriptions, refills, and medication education. Ensure adherence to HIPAA policies by maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Assist patients and families in understanding discharge instructions, referrals, and follow-up care plans. Documents all aspects of patient care according to the organization’s policies and procedures. Documents all aspects of care using the electronic medical record system. Prepares medical records prior to appointments and ensure all pertinent information are available for provider visit; retrieves outstanding referrals, labs, consultation reports and immunization records including preventive care report, after the patient visit. Obtains and records a complete set of vital signs. Notifies provider of any urgent values immediately. Assists the nurse and/or physician with patient examinations and diagnostic procedures. Assists with the collection, labeling, and logging of specimens, including laboratory specimens. Performs routine procedures such as EKGs, audiometers, retina screenings and venipuncture. Performs waived laboratory testing as directed such as dipstick urinalysis, pregnancy test, blood glucose test, hemocue hemoglobin tests. After the patient visit, reviews orders and patient instructions with patient/family and completes any paper referral forms. Maintains cleanliness in examination rooms and prepares rooms for examination of patients Collects, sterilizes, prepares, and monitors instruments and equipment. Communicates with pharmacies, patients, and physicians regarding prescription information and refills. Assist with provider desktop management, including scanning, faxing, and responding to messages. Participate in daily huddles, care team meetings, and patient care conferences to support team-based care. Monitor and report abnormal refrigerator temperatures for vaccine and specimen storage. Prepares consent forms. Performs disposition of desktop messages, scanning, and faxing under the direction of Provider and/or nurse. Attends and participates in team-based patient care conference, daily huddles, and department meetings. Assists with referral processing and tracking and provider desktop management. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are within the scope of duties enumerated throughout. QUALIFICATIONS Educational Requirements High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Certified Patient Care
Technician/Assistant
(CPCT/A) certification required. Current CPR certification, current MA Certification. Experience & Training Minimum of 5 years clinical experience. Requires basic ability to use word-processing software. Internal contacts with physicians and nurses; external contacts with patients and their families where respect, courtesy, and a patient- centered service orientation are important. SMART GOALS Consistent focus on active listening and empathetic communication to better understand and address patient needs. Stay updated and proficient in core clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and vital signs monitoring. Ensure safe and effective patient care. Consistently follow infection control protocols and safety procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS The unavoidable, externally imposed conditions under which the work must be performed, and which create hardship for the incumbent including the frequency and duration of occurrence of physical demands, environmental conditions, demands on one’s senses, and mental demands.) None known. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and balance as needed. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Manual dexterity to operate standard patient care equipment and perform routine clinical tasks. Visual and auditory ability to observe and respond to patient needs, including operation of equipment and communication with staff/patients. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and varying patient behaviors. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
