Cytogenetic Technologist – Charlotte, North Carolina | Full-Time, Evenings Join a leading healthcare system in
Charlotte, North Carolina , as a
Cytogenetic Technologist
and play a critical role in advancing patient care through cytogenetic testing and analysis. This full-time,
evening shift position (Monday–Friday, 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm, with rotating weekends/holidays)

Job Responsibilities As a Cytogenetic Technologist, you’ll contribute to essential diagnostic testing and laboratory operations, including: Performing sample setup, culturing, harvesting, slide preparation, and staining Conducting microscopic analysis, photography, karyotyping, and FISH analysis Ensuring integrity and accuracy of specimens throughout all processing phases Utilizing advanced staining techniques (Giemsa, Q-, R-, C-banding, NOR staining) Operating automated karyotyping equipment and assessing chromosomal mosaicism Managing quality control of lab equipment, incubators, and cryogenic storage systems Participating in validation studies for new test development and maintaining compliance with CAP and other regulatory standards Maintaining records, inventory, and assisting in orientation and training of new staff Staying current with research and advancements in cytogenetics Reporting any issues that may impact patient care and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a Life Science or related field required Certification:
CG (ASCP) certification or equivalent required Experience:
At least 2 years of professional experience in cytogenetics preferred
Skills & Attributes: Manual dexterity and precision for laboratory procedures Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to sit for extended periods during analysis and stand during harvest procedures Effective communication and collaboration with laboratory staff Commitment to safety and compliance when working with biohazardous materials
Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay range:
$32.45 – $48.70 per hour
