Overview
Customer Installation Specialist (Project Engineer) – Airgas The Customer Installation Specialist will lead technical and project management activities for complex Bulk (BLK) customer installations—including liquid storage (e.g., N2, O2, Ar, CO2, H2, He) and vaporization—and FLOXAL (FLX) on-site nitrogen generation systems. This role drives strategic initiatives impacting these installations and their underlying technologies, leveraging engineering knowledge, data analysis, and project management skills to improve industry code and regulatory compliance for existing systems across all Airgas regions. The Specialist will also provide essential engineering support for the continuous improvement of installation tools and standards, as well as for project-specific activities.
Responsibilities
Strategic Project Management (National Initiatives): Driving compliance projects (internal policies, regulatory codes) and safety enhancements (e.g., post-incident corrective actions).
Define project scope, objectives, technical requirements, and Management of Change (MOC) processes in alignment with Engineering and Safety policies.
Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines and resource allocation strategies.
Establish initiative tracking and reporting mechanisms using ERP/CRM systems.
Create and execute progress communication plans for Division and Regional teams, ensuring timely updates.
Provide technical guidance and lifecycle support to Regional teams.
Identify and implement strategies to optimize capital expenditure and accelerate project completion.
Collaborate with Regional teams to establish project priorities and drive successful implementation.
Participate in the development and implementation of new standards and innovative technical solutions.
Collaborate with vendors to define equipment and component specifications.
Oversee and document testing activities, capture relevant data, and generate comprehensive reports.
Provide technical support to Bulk Engineering for non-standard projects, leveraging expertise as needed.
Develop and maintain a strong technical understanding of all Airgas bulk products and technologies.
Support the utilization, development, and mentorship of ARC rotational engineers.
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, progress reports, and lessons learned.
Project Management Support: Support project management for specific customer installations (BLK or FLX).
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for on-time, within-budget completion.
Coordinate cross-functional teams (Commercial, Engineering, Risk, Procurement, etc.) to achieve project objectives and deliverables.
Oversee installation activities, ensuring minimal disruption to customer operations.
Supervise installation teams to ensure adherence to technical specifications.
Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and Airgas quality standards, promoting a safety-first culture through audits and corrective actions.
Document project activities, maintaining comprehensive records including plans, reports, lessons learned, and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred) or relevant technical field
2 to 4 years of experience in a related engineering or project management role
Strong understanding of engineering principles and design concepts
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Proficient in project management methodologies and tools (a plus)
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced environment
Physical & Work Environment
Moderate overnight travel
Must have reliable, appropriate transportation
Job requires visitation to various Airgas and customer sites with varying environments
Occasional movement through office and/or manufacturing locations
Requires use of computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle
