Job Description Description: We’re seeking an
Assistant Controller
to join our team and support the CFO and Deputy CFO in managing the organization’s accounting operations. This role is a great fit for a finance professional with strong technical skills, leadership experience, and an interest in working in a regulated industry like insurance or financial services. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP and Statutory rules, supporting audits, and mentoring a team of accountants.
What You’ll Do Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for three business units. Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting. Ensure compliance with GAAP and Statutory accounting rules for insurance carriers. Support external audits and implement/maintain internal controls. Lead and mentor a team of accountants. Manage cash flow and short-term investments; maintain banking relationships. Compile policy and claim data to support the reinsurance placement process. Take part in special projects as assigned. What We’re Looking For Minimum 3 years of related experience in accounting or finance. Experience with GAAP and Statutory Accounting required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or MBA preferred. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong technical skills in Excel and accounting software. Leadership ability with experience managing a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Positive, proactive approach to challenges. Location: This position requires working in our Yarmouth Port office at least 3 days per week.
