The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, solid experience with financial data management, and proficiency in various accounting software systems. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the integrity of our financial data and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, contributing to the overall success of the company.
Position Overview:
The accountant will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to financial management and support across various departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, data entry, and job cost accounting in a construction environment (not required), as well as the ability to process payroll, manage accounts payable, and assist with various office tasks. The role requires a proactive, organized individual who can manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
In addition to technical accounting responsibilities, the accountant will also assist with HR functions, software upgrades, and general office tasks, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements for multiple companies, including balance sheets, income statements, and job cost reports.
- Maintain general ledger accounts for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy through journal entries and account analysis.
- Manage accounts payable for all business units, ensuring timely payments to vendors and collections from clients.
- Oversee subcontractor/vendor payments and AIA billing across multiple projects and entities.
- Process weekly payroll for employees across multiple companies, ensuring accuracy in employee compensation.
- Support HR functions when needed.
- Track job costs for ongoing construction projects in multiple companies, ensuring alignment with project budgets and timelines.
- Work closely with project managers across companies to ensure accurate job cost estimates and cost control.
- Assist in the upgrade and implementation of new accounting software across multiple companies.
- Provide troubleshooting support to ensure accurate data flow and system functionality.
- Assist with audits for each company by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
- Order office supplies and manage inventory for all business units.
- Provide general administrative support to the CFO and other senior management staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, preferred not requried.
- Experience: 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or construction environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Procore, PeopleSoft, or Xero).
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, job cost accounting, and AIA billing.
- Additional Skills:
- Solid understanding of financial concepts, including accrual accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, and corporate finance.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively across multiple companies.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and team collaboration.
