to support our business office team.
Position Overview: As a
Senior Accounting Specialist , you'll be a critical member of our business office team, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance that keeps our dealership running efficiently. Beyond your technical expertise, you'll
provide leadership, influence cross-functional teams, and drive process improvements
that strengthen financial operations and support the success of the entire dealership. In this role, you'll apply your knowledge of GAAP and dealership accounting practices to manage the general ledger, payroll, sales tax filings, and commission calculations. You'll also support accounts
payable/receivable,
reconcile schedules, and monitor lender funding to maintain healthy cash flow. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with multiple departments. Pay Range:
$25.00 – $30.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) What You'll Do: Core Accounting Responsibilities Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in compliance with GAAP Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, reconciliations, and collections Prepare and submit monthly sales tax filings and ensure compliance with state and local regulations Support payroll processing and maintain accurate payroll records Calculate and process employee commissions and bonuses accurately and on schedule Reconcile aftermarket vendor schedules and submit timely payments Assist with bank reconciliations, inventory records, and balance sheet schedules Partner with the Title & Billing team to review deal documentation and ensure compliance Monitor lender funding to ensure timely cash flow Leadership & Process Improvement Responsibilities: Collaborate across departments to influence best practices and resolve accounting issues Partner with managers to ensure alignment on financial processes and compliance standards Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability Serve as a trusted resource to the business office team, mentoring and supporting colleagues when needed Who You Are: Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and internal controls Skilled in general ledger management, reconciliations, and sales tax compliance Experienced with payroll processing and commission calculations Tech-savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Dealertrack or dealership accounting system experience a plus Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and meeting deadlines Leadership & Mindset Confident leader and influencer who can build trust across departments Effective communicator who collaborates well with managers and colleagues Proactive and organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Process-minded with a continuous improvement approach to accounting and operations Eager to contribute ideas and drive efficiencies that support the dealership's success Qualifications: 5+ years of professional accounting experience Associate's degree in accounting or related field (required); equivalent experience may be considered Experience with general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and tax compliance Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required Must be at least 18 years old Able to pass a pre-employment background check Authorized to work in the United States What We Offer: Competitive pay plan with training, mentorship, and career growth opportunities Recognition programs that celebrate excellence and performance Paid time off starting on day one Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance 401(k) with employer contribution Health & Wellness reimbursement (up to $75/month) Employee discounts A fun, team-oriented atmosphere Who We Are: Berlin City Auto Group is a family of dealerships throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
