Summary: The Heavy-Duty Forklift Operator / Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of pontoons and materials within the facility and storage yard. This role supports shipping, storage, and production operations by operating forklifts, yard trucks, and handling equipment to transport, secure, and load pontoons. The operator ensures that all handling tasks meet company standards for safety, quality, and efficiency while maintaining effective communication with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities: Operate heavy duty forklifts to transport pontoons within the facility and storage yard. Place pontoons into and remove them from storage racks. Load pontoons onto hauling trailers and perform other movements to support operations. Operate yard trucks to transport trailers between the facility and storage areas. Prepare transport trailers prior to loading by setting uprights, crossbars, and bunks. Secure loaded pontoons to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Plan and communicate loading schedules to ensure cross-functional awareness and coordination. Perform additional material movement tasks as needed to support production. Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment. Follow all safety protocols and company procedures to prevent accidents and damage. Percentage of pontoons secured and transported without damage or rework. Safety Compliance:
Adherence to safety procedures with zero recordable incidents. On-Time Shipment Rate:
Percentage of trailers loaded and ready according to shipping schedule. Competencies: Skilled in operating heavy duty forklifts, yard trucks, and material handling equipment. Strong awareness of safety practices and ability to follow safety standards. Ability to plan, organize, and execute loading tasks efficiently. Effective communicator to coordinate with shipping, production, and operations teams. Strong attention to detail to ensure proper handling, securing, and transport of materials. Team-oriented with the ability to support cross-functional operations. Required education and experience: 2-3 years of forklift or heavy equipment operation experience preferred. Proven forklift knowledge and ability to obtain re-certification. Preferred education and experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. 1-2 years of experience in the marine industry or similar role is a plus. Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, and operate heavy equipment for extended periods. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to seasonal weather. Work environment: Standard manufacturing environment. Work is performed inside or outside year-round. There is exposure to dirt, dust, noise, equipment, vibrations, and seasonal weather conditions. All necessary PPE will be provided. Travel Requirements: There is no travel required for this role.
