COMPENSATION: $32-38/hr DOE, with structured transition to salary + benefits upon full-time hire

LOCATION: Remote (U.S. based - must be in EST or CST timezone)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This Accountant will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and delivering timely, clear reports to our clients. You’ll work closely with our bookkeeping team to review monthly financials, finalize reports, and communicate results directly to clients. You’ll also take ownership of closing certain client books yourself. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical accounting work and client-facing interaction, and who is excited to grow into a full-time role with greater responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review financials prepared by the bookkeeping team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper coding.
• Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to clients in a clear, professional format.
• Manage the month-end close process for a select set of assigned clients.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies, unusual transactions, or areas requiring client follow-up.
• Collaborate with internal team members to improve processes and ensure consistency in reporting.
• Communicate directly with clients, as needed, regarding their financials.
• Monitor for compliance issues and ensure GAAP standards are consistently applied.
• Respond to and research tax notices, coordinating resolution with clients and taxing authorities.
• Oversee payroll compliance, including quarterly reconciliations and filings.
• Support payroll setup in Gusto, including configuration of company accounts, pay schedules, and employee/contractor details.
• Review payroll runs and ensure accurate posting into QuickBooks Online.
• Advanced QuickBooks Online use (journal entries, imports, reconciliations, payroll, sales tax).
• Experience handling complex clean-ups.
• Strong financial statement analysis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years as an Accountant; Associate’s Degree or higher in Accounting or related field. Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance preferred.
• Proficiency in journal entries and double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience with accounts payable processes and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required); familiarity with Gusto or other payroll systems.
• Comfortable working remotely with cloud-based tools (ClickUp, Google Drive, etc.).
• Ability to quickly adapt to tech software and new tools.
• Excellent communication & strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be located in USA in EST or CST timezone.
• Remote working experience required.
