Job Overview
The Electrician performs building trades work in maintaining electrical systems, fixtures and related components as part of the Facilities Management department. Services include standard electrician work, journey-level maintenance and repairs following industry practices. Provides daily maintenance support to building users, including responses to service calls, scheduled preventive maintenance, and unscheduled or special work when assigned to a zone office. Uses standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observes safety rules, codes, regulations and precautions in performing duties.
Work Interactions
This position reports directly to the Low Voltage Electric Supervisor and, indirectly, to Zone Managers when assigned to a zone. It may involve working with other trades, alone or with helpers, to provide a safe, comfortable and clean environment for the University community. Customer service is required in line with the department mission.
This position may require operating University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts). A medical card and/or certificate issued by a licensed medical examiner (DOT) is required after a DOT physical examination as defined by GU policy and DOT regulations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the electrician trade. Must have a current journeyman electrical license for the District of Columbia
- Incumbent is subject to random and for-cause drug and alcohol testing
- Must possess valid DC, VA or MD driver’s license
